Fred R. Taylor

U.S. Veteran

    Fred R. (Rooney) Taylor, 87, a resident of Montgomery, PA, passed on Friday, May 18, 2012 in the Gatehouse at Williamsport, PA.  Born in Milton, Northumberland County, PA, on Friday, June 20, 1924, he was the son of the late Fred W. and Alma B. (Musser) Taylor. Fred was the husband of Joyce M. (Bower) Taylor with whom he would have celebrated a 62nd wedding anniversary on May 20th.

    He honorably served during the Second World War with the U.S. Navy on the USS Amsterdam, the USS Indiana, and the USS Callaghan.

    Fred retired from the Carlisle Barricks where he was employed as a firefighter guard. He was also retired from the Zenith Corp at Watsontown where he was employed in security.

    He was a member of the St. John Lutheran "Brick" Church at Montgomery, PA. Fred was a member of Muncy Lodge #299 F.& A.M., the Warrior Run Royal Arch Chapter at Watsontown, the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Williamsport, Bower-Decker American Legion Post #251 at Montgomery, the Montgomery V.F.W. Post and the Lycoming Hunting and Fishing Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing cards. Rooney was a Phillies fan.

    In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and two daughters, Jocelyn and Tim Thomas, Allenwood, PA; Fred W. Taylor II, Montgomery, PA; Carol T. and Steve Sims, Allenwood, PA; Michael Taylor, Rochester, MN; six grandchildren, Jamie Baldys; Jessie Thomas; Jill Taylor; Drew Taylor; Brooke Sims; Dana Sims; three great-grandsons, Bohdy Thomas; Jaxson Thomas; Finn Thomas; one sister and brother-in-law, Effie and Wilbur Engelman, Montgomery, PA and his sister-in-law, Agatha Taylor, Muncy, PA. Fred was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond R. Taylor.

    A memorial service will be conducted from the St. John Lutheran "Brick" Church, 196 Brick Church Road, Montgomery, PA at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 with Reverend Viking E. Dietrich, his pastor, officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday from 9:30 - 11:00 A.M. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, Northeastern PA District, 1704 Warren Avenue, Williamsport, PA 17701.
